The Government of South Australia has named Vix Vizion as an official solution provider of facial recognition software for the local gambling register.
Under the face recognition scheme, all licenced pubs, clubs and hotels that are allowed to run thirty and more gaming and gambling machines are required to implement Facial Recognition software in case one or more of the terminals are equipped with a banknote acceptor. The move has been unveiled as part of the Government’s efforts to create and maintain an official register of the customers who use the machines.
As the state’s Government revealed, the Racial Recognition Software owned by Vix Vizion has been approved by the competent authorities as a tech solution that is officially recognised in the sector. It was also uploaded on the government’s website that has to be reached by the systems integrators and licensed premises. Each technology that is involved in the program is subject to evaluation by the Consumer and Business Services in South Australia, with the ones that meet its criteria being approved.
In order for a facial recognition system to be given the green light for use in gaming and gambling establishments, it must be able to identify and verify the human face’s physical features. For that, a digital image saved from a fixed video source is used by the system. Furthermore, the facial recognition system needs to be able to establish safe communication with the so-called barring database that is currently being maintained by the Consumer and Business Services and use the data to make a comparison between that database and the images of individuals who enter a gaming area.
Vix Vizion’s Facial Recognition System Keeps Metadata of Actual Data
An approved facial recognition system is also required to get in touch with the gambling provider when it identifies a suspected barred person to be attempting to place a bet.
The approved facial recognition technologies are also required to make sure they prevent unwanted access to any of the data collected in the state’s registries. As explained in a statement issued by Vix Vizion, the system needs to uphold strict data retention and privacy regulations.
Fraser Larcombe from Vix Vizion explained that the Imagus software provided by the company only keeps the metadata of a person, rather than their actual data. This basically means that the system stores data about the actual data, rather than the actual information itself. This is the reason why the software recognises individuals only in case they have already been included in the barring database. As Mr Larcombe explained, this is an approach that is associated with the socially responsible use of technology.
Vix Vizion current offers a facial recognition solution that is wholly domestic-owned and is working in collaboration with domestic market integrators and partners as part of its efforts to put high-quality technology into Australia-based businesses and licensed gambling and gaming clubs.
